Experience of Storage Facility Construction in Africa

The course introduces  rice processing equipment as well as the grain storage and logistics systems developed by China Grain Wuhan Scientific Research & Design Institute. It also presents  an overview of the experience with storage facility and technology in China, along with practices in Africa and suggestions tailored for smallholder farmers in the region.  

 

The course comes from 2022 Seminar on China-AFrica Rice Value Chain, a policy dialogue co-organised by WFP China COE, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration (NAFRA), CICETE, CERFAM and UNOSSC. This dialogue aims to discuss and exchange insights on China-Africa rice value chain development with a focus on processing, storage and quality control.

Xie Jian

Professor

Prof. Xie, Chief Engineer of China Grain Wuhan Scientific Research and Design Institute. He is an  expert in rice processing technology and euqipment, enginerring design and tehchncial extension services. 

Prof. Xie has been engaged in R&D, Engineering Design and Technical Services for rice processing industry since 1982, presided over the completion of more than 10 National Key Science and Technology Project on rice processing, draw up or revised over 20 national and international standards, such as “GB/T 1354-2018 Rice”, and ISO  Standard “ ISO7301:2021 Rice-Specification”, etc. Prof. Xie designed or provided technical advice for rice processing enterprises such as COFCO Rice, Jinjian Rice Group, Beidahuan Rice Group, Myanmar Japan Rice Co., Cambodia Rice Co., etc..
