In this course, we will explore the physiological characteristics of laying hens, including their nutritional requirements, health issues, and behavior. We will also cover the key points of feeding and management of laying hens, including feeding methods, water requirements, and housing conditions. Additionally, we will delve into the effect of heat stress on laying hens and the key points of feeding and management under heat stress. We will cover topics such as the signs and symptoms of heat stress, prevention and treatment measures, and the importance of proper ventilation and cooling systems. By the end of this course, you will have a solid understanding of the feeding and management of laying hens, as well as the necessary precautions to take in the event of heat stress.

 

This course is part of a series of technique training focusing on vegetable cultivation and poultry feeding,  offered under the Country Pilot Project titled "Capacity Development on Sustainable Agriculture and Value Chain Development in Nepal".

Geng Ailian, Associate Professor at the Institute of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, Beijing Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences. Her research focuses on key nutritional requirements of a native chicken, Beijing You Chicken, under cage and free-range systems, development of odor control technology for middle and small-scale chicken house, lighting control application in modulating incubation and egg-laying behaviors, establishment of ecological and animal friendly rearing mode such as “woodland-grass-chicken rearing” and their application in farms, etc.
