The WFP Centre of Excellence for Rural Transformation (WFP China COE) organizes a comprehensive webinar series on Agricultural Disaster Management from June 25 to July 16, 2026. The webinar consists of four sessions in total, providing a collaborative platform for knowledge exchange among developing countries to explore practical tools, operational models, and proven technologies for effective agricultural disaster management and safeguarding food security. The four sessions are as follows:

 

Session I: Multi-stakeholder Coordination to Protect Agricultural Livelihoods

Session II: Early Warning and Impact-Based Forecasting for Disaster-Ready Agriculture

Session III: Farmer‑Centric Innovations for Agricultural Disaster Risk Reduction

Session IV: Technological Solutions for Addressing Waterlogging and Safeguarding Water Access

 

This course is part of Session IV: Technological Solutions for Addressing Waterlogging and Safeguarding Water Access. The session aims to enhance agricultural resilience against climate-induced water extremes and resource limitations by sharing integrated disaster mitigation systems and green energy irrigation innovations. It is structured around two main parts: Technologies and Equipment Solutions for Waterlogging Disaster Mitigation in China’s Major Grain Producing Areas, and Expanding Water Access through Solar Pump Solutions. The first part highlights the escalating risks of extreme rainfall in traditional agricultural regions and introduces a comprehensive prevention framework, detailing the deployment of digital twin platforms, smart drainage equipment, and targeted eco-technologies to effectively combat surface and subsurface waterlogging. The second part reviews the operational mechanisms and diverse applications of solar pump systems, detailing their core advantages in reducing agricultural operating costs and carbon emissions, while exploring innovative business models to overcome financial and technical barriers in remote areas.

LEI Tianjie

Research Professor

Prof. Lei is a Research Professor and PhD Supervisor at the Institute of Agricultural Environment and Sustainable Development, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences. His research focuses on water, food and ecological security via space-air-ground big data, intelligent sensing and digital twin technologies for disaster early warning and risk control. He heads 10 national projects and joins over 30 national & FAO programs. He has published 120+ papers, 15 monographs and 4 book series, and owns 80+ invention patents and 25 software copyrights.

LIN Lizhong

Founder & General Manager

Mr. Lin serves as the industry supervisor for the Agricultural New Talent Training Programme. Cooperating with the Chinese Academy of Sciences team, he pioneered the application of brushless DC technology in solar water pumps across China. His team delivers low-carbon, distributed solar solutions for farm irrigation, rural water supply, aquaculture, ecological restoration, and saline-alkali land improvement, integrating renewable energy with electromechanical manufacturing. The core technology has won top honours at the FAO-CAAS Low-Carbon Agriculture Competition and the UNIDO Global Call.
