This class focuses on rice storage, processing, and nutrition. It explores the vital role of the rice value chain in addressing food security challenges in Africa. Through a series of informative presentations, it discusses the progress made towards achieving Zero hunger in Guinea, the potential of the rice value chain to enhance resilient food systems in Madagascar, and the importance of supporting the rice value chain for increased resilience in Côte d’Ivoire. Additionally, it delves into the critical aspects of rice storage, processing, and nutrition in Africa.

Hyoung-Joon Lim

Country Director

Dr. Hyoung-Joon Lim is Country Director/Representative of Guinea. He joined WFP in January 2002 and has since served in Honduras, Guinea Bissau, and Lao PDR, managing complex emergency operations as well as development projects. While at WFP Rome HQ, he served as the Donor Relations Officer in charge of Asian and some European donors. In Seoul, Republic of Korea, he served as Director of the WFP global office and actively mobilized resources to support over 50 country operations around the world.

Marc Regnault de la Mothe

Deputy Director

Marc Regnault de la Mothe is Deputy Country Director of the World Food Programme in Madagascar since August 2022. His humanitarian and development experience spans across 25 years between Latin America, Africa, Middle East and Eastern Europe and Asia. Mr. Regnault de la Mothe has worked at the WFP for 23 years in various capacities in Programme, Partnerships and Management in the organization, both in emergency and development settings.

Li Yanping, Deputy General Manager of Yuan's (Madagascar) Agricultural Development Co., Ltd., has been resident in Madagascar since 2008, overseeing hybrid rice promotion. She masters local agriculture, customs and systems, leading the company to build Africa’s first integrated hybrid rice industrial chain base. She pioneered a "company+micro credit cooperatives+farmers" model, established seed/processing centers and a full-cycle technical service & branded marketing system.

Wang Miao is the general manager of CGCOC Agriculture Development Co., Ltd. This company positions itself as “a bridge for China–Africa agricultural cooperation and a partner in Africa’s agricultural development.” Over the years, the company has worked closely with its shareholders and partners to establish a strong presence in countries such as Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Senegal, and Ethiopia.
